Freelance Heritage building archival research (Cape Town)

Job Description

This is an opportunity for a student with an interest in architecture, town planning, archaeology or history to research a heritage building in the Cape Town CBD in a very significant area, with the aim of
* uncovering old building plans / list of alterations plans / title deeds / street maps from the Cape Archives and other sources, books etc. (the grand prize being finding original building plans)
* finding the earliest available picture of the street, the building itself as surrounding buildings
* establishing a history of the building and its use over the years. We are able to establish 4 owners of that building during the last 120 years and the location is marked on city maps dating back to the 1780’s
Compensation for this is negotiable and depending on material found.
